PERSONAL STORY
It is an honor to serve as your representative on the Madison Common Council.
Together, we can continue to move this beautiful district forward. We can make Madison a city that works for all people.
I was first elected in 2015, as one of the first two African American women to serve on the Common Council.
Education, family, and faith have helped define my life. I am a graduate of the University of Missouri, St. Louis (BS Special Education), South Illinois University-Edwardsville (MA in Urban Planning and Public Policy Analysis), and I have an MBA from Fontbonne University.
Currently, I am the Church Executive Administrator and Chair Deacon at Christ the Solid Rock Church. My professional career has also included serving as the Deputy Associate Director of Madison-Area Urban Ministry, as an Adjunct Instructor at Edgewood College, and as the Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator for the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin.
I grew up in St. Louis and spent summers in the south. I moved to Madison in 2005 to take care of my son, Mike McKinney, during his battle with cancer. Mike had a successful career as news anchor at NBC-15 and was well known for his community service.
Your trust and confidence in me is something I will work to earn every day. I ask for your vote on April 4.

Public Safety
Everyone should feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods. I supported additional Community Police Officers, the Body-Worn Camera Pilot for Madison's Northside, and a Public Health approach to gun violence. I also support the CARES program, which sends mental health professionals to non-violent behavioral emergency calls that do not require law enforcement.
Housing
As the city grows, we need more housing options and opportunities. Home ownership helps build generational wealth, and programs to promote ownership need to be balanced with the need for more urban density.
City Services
Our residents deserve high-quality city services at a price we can afford. Our bus system must be equitable and accessible to all. I voted against salary increases for Alders that some of my opponents supported. At a time when families are struggling, we should be focused on the needs of those we serve, not giving ourselves a pay raise.
Equity and Access
I will always bring your voice to the table. Our City and its government must be more transparent and welcoming to all. I will continue to support initiatives that increase accountability, transparency, and measured outcomes and keep the public aware of city-level decisions.
